New figures from the National Child Measurement Programme show that Wilmslow has the lowest proportion of childhood obesity and excess weight in the country.
Just 3% of Reception children and 7% of those in Year 6 are clinically obese, while a further 13% of four and five year olds and 17% of ten and eleven year olds are overweight.
Chorley (nr Alderley Edge), Twickenham Riverside in Richmond upon Thames, Nonsuch in Epsom and Ewell and Lindfield in Mid Sussex make up the rest of the top five places with the lowest rates of overweight children.
18% of four and five year olds in Macclesfield Central are overweight – 4% lower than the national average of 22%
30% of ten and eleven year olds in Macclesfield Central are overweight – again, 4% lower than the national average of 34%.
Children in Camberwell Green in Southwark, London, are the most likely in England to be obese or overweight with figures showing 33% of Year 6 children (those aged ten and eleven) in the ward are considered obese, while a further 51% are overweight.
Similarly, 18% of Reception-aged children (four and five year olds) in Camberwell Green are obese, and another 34% are heavier than they should be. It means the area has the highest rate of childhood obesity and excess weight of all council wards in England.
