Bosley Tug of War Club’s Open Tug of War Competition held at Glebe Farm, Astbury on Sunday 2 April was a huge success.
The event was attended by numerous teams from around the area and further afield including clubs from Worcestershire, Bedfordshire, Yorkshire and Cumbria.
The competition was intense, with teams battling it out to win in their respective weight categories. The event saw last years world championships silver medallists win all of the gold medals in the mens weight classes, with local team Sandbach finishing as runners up in the 680 kg competition.
In the ladies and youth section, the three competitions held on the day saw different teams share the spoils with Upper Eden from Cumbria, Penistone from Yorkshire and Army ladies comping away with gold medals. Host club Bosley performed really well to take home silver in the 540kg competition.
A young farmers team competition was also held at the event with Sandbach Young Farmers finishing as the winners with Penistone Young Farmers finishing as the runners up.
Alan Knott, the spokesperson for the Bosley Tug of War Club, expressed his gratitude to everyone who came along to support the event. He stated, “It’s been a great day today and fantastic to see lots of young pullers and juniors on the field. It was a great atmosphere all day, the sun shone and we hope everyone enjoyed the pulling!”
“We would also like to thank Rob Lomas and the team at Glebe Farm for allowing us to host the event there. It is hugely appreciated”
The event was a great success, and the Bosley Tug of War Club looks forward to hosting more such events in the future, with its next main event being hosted at the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair at Peover Hall on Sunday 6th August.
The club otherwise trains together on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at its tug of war training facility in Bosley, and the club always welcomes new male and female members aged 14 plus to join the team and have a go.
