Tile artwork created by pupils

Friends of Prestbury Station worked with local school children to create a piece of public art.

The children, all pupils at Prestbury CE Primary School, painted tiles, under the pedestrian bridge, to represented hope.

The artwork was unveiled at a ceremony celebrating the 18 month project. Volunteers wanted to create an inspiring piece of art on the previously dull area under the bridge.

Carol Waters, who had the idea for the project, worked with Shaun O’Neill and Peter Holes, who were responsible for creating and installing the frame for the tiles.

The Community Rail Network and Northern funded the project, and the tiles were donated by Tile Giant Macclesfield.

Alex Thomas, President of Friends of Prestbury Station said: “We’re really pleased the project has been completed. It’s turned out even better than we hoped it would.

“We had the schoolchildren come down to the station and unveil the artwork themselves and you could see by the look on their faces they were thrilled.

“The project has delivered everything we thought it would. It brought the community together—young and old—all with a collective goal of improving our station.

“This is the culmination of a lot of hard work and effort. Huge thanks to everyone involved.”

“We are proud to work with hundreds of adoption groups who are committed to making stations across our network pleasant and welcoming places for people to visit.”
