Jeeves & Wooster

The West End theatre hit Jeeves & Wooster in Perfect Nonsense is on its way to Buxton Opera House this autumn.

Winning Best New Comedy at the 2014 Olivier Awards, the charmingly incompetent Bertie Wooster and his unflappable valet Jeeves are brought to life in this highly acclaimed comedy by brothers Robert and David Goodale, adapted from the works of P.G. Wodehouse.

When a country house weekend takes a turn for the worse, Bertie Wooster is unwittingly called on to play matchmaker and to also steal a silver cow creamer from Totleigh Towers. Naturally, the ever dependable Jeeves is there to prevent Bertie from making a fool of himself in front of a cast of Wodehouse’s finest characters.

Described as ‘Laugh out loud funny’, Perfect Nonsense has been acclaimed by the critics as the comedy of the year, with audiences enjoying a raucous evening in the company of characters such as Gussie Fink-Nottle, Madeline Bassett, Sir Watkin Bassett, Dahlia Travers, Roderick Spode and Constable Oates! During its run in the West End the play starred a host of big names including Stephen Mangan, Matthew Macfadyen, Robert Webb, John Gordon-Sinclair, Mark Heap and James Lance.

PG Woodhouse started writing his Jeeves and Wooster stories from 1915, when the characters first appeared in the short storyExtricating Young Gussie. The characters grew in popularity and appeared in many of Wodehouse’s books of short stories, including Aunt’s Aren’t Gentlemen written years later in 1974. The duo was brought to TV screens in the 60s played by Dennis Price and Ian Carmichael in the show The World of Wooster, and again in the 1990s by Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie.

Jeeves and Wooster takes place from Thursday 10 to Saturday 12 September. Tickets are priced from £23 to £25 and discounts are available. To buy tickets or for more information call the box office on 01298 72190 or book online atwww.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
