Following hugely successful Christmas shows Moominland Midwinter and Underneath a Magical Moon, Waterside in Sale is delighted to announce this year’s Christmas show: The Bear by Raymond Briggs, presented by Pins & Needles Productions.

Ever wondered what it would be like to sit on a polar bear’s lap? Or ride on its back? Have you ever tried to give a bear a bath? Or clear up its poo?! Looking after a bear is exhausting stuff.

One night when she’s fast asleep, an enormous snowy white bear climbs into Tilly’s bedroom. It has a big black tongue and a yawn as big as your head. But Tilly’s not scared.

With dazzling puppetry, delicious music, dreamy storytelling, and dozens of laughs, The Bear is an unforgettable experience for the whole family and a perfect introduction to theatre. So come join Tilly and her great big white friend on a wild and magical adventure.

This heart-warming and humorous wintry tale is brought to you by Pins and Needles – the team behind the hugely successful Father Christmas – who are delighted to be bringing to life another of Raymond Briggs’ much-loved storybooks.

Darren Adams, Arts Centre Manager of Waterside says: ‘We are thrilled to welcome Pins and Needles to Trafford, with their magical production of The Bear this Winter.  At Waterside, we are proud to continually offer a high-quality extensive programme of performance and visual arts, with events for families and young people at the heart of that.  As a result, our Christmas productions are always carefully hand-picked to really enchant our young audiences.“

Emma Earle, Director of The Bear and Co-Artistic Director of Pins & Needles says: ‘We’re really looking forward to bringing The Bear to Waterside and are sure it will delight Manchester audiences as it did up and down the country on its critically-acclaimed tour last year. It’s fantastic to be returning to the area, following our performances of Mr Popper’s Penguins at The Lowry two years ago.’
