YOUR COMMENTS: DOING NOTHING COULD BE OUR ONLY OPTION!

Dear Editor,

As a now retired Retail Surveyor with 50 years experience, I totally agree with your comments and general approach.

CEC council are unfortunately in the hands of inexperienced officers and members who have little or no idea of the path that is being taken by retailing in this country. We are experiencing a “sea change”, when all WB & CEC can do is repeat the same old story, and in the process add to the fear and lack of action.

Landlords will need to reduce rents if retail units are to maintain financial stability, thereby enabling the occupiers to produce a profit.

This will happen, and the financial Institutions that fund new retail developments will steer clear of anything other than Prime retail space in the major Regional Centres, as they will only invest where there is the expectancy of reasonable levels of growth in rental values.
