BRISTOL ROVERS 0 MACCLESFIELD TOWN 0

It wasn`t a game for the purists but Macc will gladly accept a point from a hard day`s graft at Bristol Rovers.

Gary Simpson named a five-man back line to face the Pirates, with Tony Diagne, captain for the day, moving into the centre of defence to accommodate the returning Carl Tremarco at left-back.

Chances in the first half were few and far between, with Macc under pressure for the most part and thankful for a brave block by Tremarco that kept out Lee Brown. Although they failed to muster an opportunity of their own they remained on level terms at half-time.

The second half began with Bristol Rovers back on the front foot, Macc`s rearguard holding firm, with Michael Lund`s volley over their main concern after the resumption.

Macc`s first shot of the afternoon came just before the hour mark but George Donnelly`s sharp effort was deflected wide.

Although the vast majority of play was in Macc`s half, Rovers` best chance came on a breakaway, and ended with their star player, Mustapha Carayol, stinging Richard O`Donnell`s hands with a fierce shot.

O`Donnell again saved his side`s hard-earned point in the closing minutes, getting down at his near post to turn Brown`s goalbound shot wide.
