Macclesfield manager Gary Simpson was surprised to see highly-rated youngster Elliott Hewitt remain at the club at the close of the January transfer window.
The 17-year-old is regarded by many, including Simpson, as one of the best young talents outside the Premier League, having impressed since breaking into the first-team at Moss Rose this season.
However, despite several top-flight clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton keeping tabs on the Wales under-21 international, Hewitt is staying until the end of the season.
The Silkmen boss told skysports.com that he was pleasantly surprised to see the transfer window slam shut last week with no offers made for the defender/midfielder.
“Well, the kid had only just got back into training in mid-January following injury and only completed his first 90 minutes in the FA Cup replay at Bolton,” said Simpson.
“He is certainly one for the future and I have no doubt that he will play in the Premier League.
“I`m amazed that no one has opted to test our resolve so far, but perhaps clubs are hoping he will continue to progress further here before taking him on.
“Everyone knows how good a player he is now and the potential he has is amazing, so I`m glad to have him here as part of my squad still.”
