Cheshire Police are warning businesses in Macclesfield about a cold calling scam where a caller uses the constabulary′s name to “secure advertising”.It has come to light that a person, claiming to be a PCSO from Cheshire, has been calling businesses in the Macclesfield area asking for a monetary donation.
They have suggested that ‘youth crime′ in the rural areas is on the increase and want local businesses to support the setting up of a local youth club and ask for a donation of £125 or £250 so they could be free to attend.
As a result of the scam, Cheshire Police want businesses to be aware that the police would not cold call or ask for money for advertising. If you receive a call requesting money and you cannot verify who they are then we would advise you not to give out any bank details, funds or personal details.
Any suspicious calls can be reported to Trading Standards or Action Fraud http://www.actionfraud.police.uk/. |
