BMX riders sought following robbery

The victim, a woman aged in her 50s, was walking along Chester Road towards town when she was approached from behind by two men on bikes.

They grappled with her bag causing her to fall to the ground.

The victim, who was taken to hospital and treated for cuts and bruises, was helped by a witness after the men rode off.

The incident happened on Wednesday, September 10, between 9.30am and 9.45pm on a section of road just after Macclesfield fire station.

The offenders are thought to be in their late teens or early 20s. They are described of skinny build and wearing dark clothing.

A white male was riding a silver BMX, while the other male was riding a dark coloured BMX.

Detectives at Macclesfield CID are appealing for witnesses.

Detective Constable Debbie Webster said: “Fortunately the males did not successfully steal the handbag – however this has caused the victim a great deal of upset and distress.

“I would hope that Chester Road would have been busy at this time with vehicles and pedestrians.

“I am particularly looking to identify a kind member of the public who has helped the victim pick up some of her belongings.

“This male may have vital information about the incident and I would urge him to get in touch.”
