Fresh from his appearance on BBC’s Question Time, the night before, Ken Clarke spoke to members of the Macclesfield Conservative Association Patrons’ Club at their recent Annual Dinner.
The former Chancellor and Home Secretary set out his views on a wide range of issues, including the economy, the challenges facing the Euro-zone and immigration, among others. He then took questions from the audience of over 120 members.
During his informative and entertaining speech, Ken Clarke also reflected on the time when local MP, David Rutley, worked as a Special Adviser at the Treasury, while he served as Chancellor of the Exchequer in the mid-1990s.
After the dinner, David said “We were grateful to Ken for coming to support our Annual Dinner. He has a breadth and depth of experience in Government, which few other Parliamentarians can boast. It was good to have the chance to hear his views on a wide range of issues, delivered in Ken’s own unique style.”
