Drawn out of Love – an exhibition of engravings, watercolours, lino-prints and pencil sketches by Barbara Greg and her husband, Norman Janes is currently running at Quarry Bank Mill.
Barbara Greg – whose family ran several mills in the Manchester area – grew up in the early 1900s and was a descendant of Samuel Greg, the founder of Quarry Bank Mill. She went on to illustrate many countryside books including The Poacher’s Handbook.
Her art was heavily influenced by the landscape around Quarry Bank and the influence of her family’s history in industry.
She met Norman at the Slade School of Art in London and he too was influenced by nature, as well as industrial life.
The exhibition runs until April 19th and is open every day from 11.00 am to 4.30 pm
