Members of Macclesfield based organisation, Speaking Up, Speaking Out (SUSO)’s “Parachute” drop in organisation, had a day out to remember, as they visited the Houses of Parliament, following an invitation from local Member of Parliament, David Rutley.
During their visit, the group were given a tour of the historic Palace, before having the chance to watch the live proceedings in the House of Commons from the public gallery. The visit was rounded off by a meeting with David, where he talked about how Parliament works, and his work as an MP. David previously met with the organisation in October last year, and held a question and answer session with members, during which he invited the group to come to Westminister, and learn more about how the House of Commons works.
SUSO is an organisation, which supports adults with learning disabilities and additional needs. Their popular drop-in, Parachute, is currently open on Mondays, Tuesday and Thursdays, with “Dropper Inners” able to take part in a wide range of activities for both half days and full days, without any need to become a member.
Parachute currently receive funding from the Big Lottery Fund. This funding is soon up for renewal, however, and David has added his support to the organisation in its application for further funding.
Speaking following the visit, David said, “I have been delighted to support the work of SUSO and Parachute during my time as an MP, and it was a pleasure to be able to welcome them to Parliament. SUSO provide an excellent service, and I was also pleased to be able to add my support to their application for further Lottery funding.”
