Local residents are being invited to learn all they need to know about headaches in less than an hour at a free public lecture next month.
The talk, which will be delivered by consultant neurologist and movement disorder specialist Monty Silverdale, takes place at the Lecture Theatre, Macclesfield District General Hospital on Tuesday, May 12th.
Starting at 7pm, the lecture will aim to help people understand more about the causes and treatment of headache. The session will cover serious causes of headache such as brain tumours and haemorrhages, along with much more common forms of headache such as migraine.
Dr Silverdale, who works as a consultant neurologist both at Macclesfield Hospital and at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Headache is very common problem.
“One in four people have occasional severe headaches and one in 20 people have headaches every day.
“However, understanding and treating headaches really is quite easy. I can tell you all you need to know in 30 minutes.”
Dr Silverdale has been a consultant for eight years and in that time, has treated over 2,000 patients with headache. His main sub-speciality interest in neurology is Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders.
Dr Silverdale is also an honorary senior lecturer at Manchester University and his research interests include trying to develop better treatments for Parkinson’s disease. Dr Silverdale lives in Knutsford and his main hobby is watching and playing football, participating in five-aside games at least once a week.
