Detectives investigating non-recent sexual offences are appealing for information from the public.
Officers are trying to trace people who may have been in the Macclesfield area in the summer of 1975 or 1976 and who may be able to assist with their enquiries.
Three incidents of sexual assault were reported to police recently – the victim was a young boy at the time. One took place inside a disused building on Roe Street, which later became the Salvation Army building, and another in a house on Union Street.
The offender is described as a white man with dark hair, of stocky build and aged in his 30s or 40s. He was wearing dark blue overalls.
Police Constable Stephanie Montague said: “We are asking people to cast their minds back to the mid-1970s. We appreciate that it is difficult asking people to recall things from such a long time ago but any information – even the smallest amount – is useful when piecing together a case.
“The victim believes that the three incidents took place sometime in 1975 or 1976 – but he cannot recall the exact date. We are asking anyone who might have any information about those incidents – or who the potential offender may be to come forward.
“Cheshire Police takes all reports of sexual offences seriously – no matter how long ago the incident took place – and would encourage anyone who has been a victim or witness to contact police. Specially trained officers are available to provide support throughout the investigation.”
Anyone with any information is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting crime reference number CC14356172.
Information can also be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
