Silkmen launch another cheeky campaign to secure Raheem Sterling

Liverpool forward Raheem Sterling could be set for a transfer to Macclesfield Town, if they can reach their crowd funding target of £50m.

The Silkmen have set up a tongue-in-cheek funding page following Sterling’s recent valuation and are hoping they can bring the young England international into the Macclesfield Town fold.

After failing in their recent bid to host the World Cup they set their sites on bringing the top Liverpool player to their team ahead of Manchester City who have tried to tempt the unsettled play maker away from LFC with a £30m bid.

The organisers of the fundraising page, which has so far raised £410, said Raheem would not have to worry about being under-appreciated. In a cheeky dig at Liverpool’s final league game this year, they wrote: “Admittedly, the move would be a little step down from the Premier League, but we here at Macclesfield Town can guarantee that Raheem wouldn’t have to sit on the bench and watch a 6-1 defeat at Stoke City.”

The Silkmen, who this season finished 6th in the conference, tweeted they were ‘nearly there’ when they received their first pledge of £5.

With the fund standing at £410 and thousands more pledging support on Twitter, could the Liverpool forward be heading for Macclesfield
