Better services for crime victims

Cheshire’s Police & Crime Commissioner has unveiled plans to transform the services provided to victims across the county.

As part of his drive to place victims at the heart of policing, John Dwyer has commissioned Cheshire Constabulary to create an integrated victim service, building on services that are currently in place.

John Dwyer said: “I am committed to ensuring victims receive high quality support to help them cope and recover from their ordeal. This new service, which is currently under development, will be available to all victims of a criminal offence and those closely affected by it, including those who don’t want to formally report the crime to the police.

“The service will include a single point of contact for all victims, face to face contact with trained volunteers and build on the professional and vital help Victim Support have been providing. The help and advice will be tailored to each person’s needs and will work in conjunction with our partner agencies and specialist commissioned services across the region.

“Finally, I would like to put on record how grateful I am to Victim Support for the service they have provided to victims in Cheshire over many years.”

The integrated victim’s and witness service will be underpinned by a new victim’s strategy and online directory services. Further information on this will be released leading up to the formal launch towards the end of this year.

DCC Janette McCormick said: “Cheshire Constabulary has made a commitment to be here for victims and with this service we plan to build on this commitment to ensure those affected by crime continue to be given the help and support they need.”
