Local residents are being invited to learn all they need to know about common nasal and sinus conditions in just an hour at a free public lecture next week.
The talk, which will be delivered by consultant ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeon and rhinology specialist Mr Derrick Siau, takes place at Macclesfield District General Hospital on Tuesday, September 8th
Starting at 7pm, the lecture will aim to help people understand more about the causes and treatment of common nasal conditions which affect millions of people. The session will cover causes of nasal obstruction, discharge such as allergies, infections and sinusitis along with common causes of facial pain.
Mr Siau said: “Problems affecting the nose are very common and can significantly impact on everything from a person’s productivity at work to their overall quality of life.
“One in four people have allergies affecting the nose and one in six people suffer from chronic sinusitis. One in four people will suffer from pain affecting the face, but these are usually not caused by sinusitis.
“My talk will explain how to understand these very common conditions which can severely impact on people’s lives if not managed effectively.”
Mr Siau was recently appointed as a consultant at Macclesfield District General Hospital, which is run by East Cheshire NHS Trust. His main sub-speciality interest in ENT includes allergies, sinusitis, hearing loss and vertigo.
Mr Siau is also an honorary senior lecturer at Edge Hill University and his research interests include implantable hearing aids and surgical techniques in treating sinusitis. MrSiau lives in Manchester and outside of work, his hobbies include country walks and fine dining.
