Open meeting to discuss controversial plans to demolish The Bay Leaf

As we have reported on a number of occasions (http://www.ilovemacc.com/2015/07/08/6300/, http://www.ilovemacc.com/2015/07/13/bay-leaf-public-consultation-myth/, http://www.ilovemacc.com/2015/08/17/adolph-wasnt-such-a-bad-man/, http://www.ilovemacc.com/2015/08/24/bay-leaf-planning-application-our-response/) developers are planning to demolish the old and iconic Waggon & Horses pub (Bay Leaf Lounge) then to construct a larger building to accommodate a Sainsbury’s supermarket on the ground floor with the restaurant above.

A huge number of objections have been registered on Cheshire East’s planning portal which has resulted in the planning application being ‘called in’ – to be discussed by the Northern Planning Committee.

Objections have been levelled for reasons including traffic, safety and car parking and some have raised concerns over the loss of the landmark building.

Bollington Town Council have organised a public meeting to give residents an opportunity to air their views.

Town clerk David Naylor has said: “It will enable members of the community to discuss this matter with Town Council members in a public forum. We will also be feeding back information from our discussions with Cheshire East.

“We hope to be able to provide a date at the public meeting as to when the Northern Area Committee will meet to determine the application.”

The open meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 21, 7.45pm at Bollington Cross School.

The following day (September 22nd) Bollington Town Council will meet at 7pm at Bollington Town Hall to determine its recommendations to Cheshire East planners.

Space at the Town Council meeting is limited to about 40 members of the public.

Although the open meeting will provide a forum for discussion, individual views are unlikely to reach the Northern Planning Committee. To ensure your thoughts are taken into consideration log on to: http://www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/planning/view_a_planning_application/view_a_planning_application.aspx and key in the application number 15/3674M.

The deadline for commenting on the plans has been extended to September 22 – providing more time to formally lodge any comments.
