This morning (Wednesday, September 16) Cheshire police officers conducted a number of dawn raids, in relation to the supply of drugs, across the county.
Part of the Constabulary’s Operation Impact campaign, this was the latest stage in the force’s efforts to tackle those whose criminality linked to drugs brings misery to the wider community.
Officers from the Local Policing Unit worked in partnership with the taskforce to conduct 20 warrants across the Macclesfield area. Further warrants were executed at addresses in Merseyside and Greater Manchester – leading to 20 arrests and the seizure of a range of items concerned with criminal activity including cash, drugs and weapons – including one firearm.
Chief Superintendent Andy Southcott said: “The corrosive effect that drug abuse and associated criminality has on our communities is well known, and this action this morning demonstrates our commitment to tackling those involved head-on.
“Cheshire Constabulary is determined to bring to justice those who continue to undermine our communities and bring misery to residents through their involvement in organised crime and illegal drugs.
“This sort of behaviour can have a major impact on local communities. It is an issue the Force takes extremely seriously and we devote all the resources we can to tracing those responsible and disrupting their behaviour.”
Police & Crime Commissioner John Dwyer attended the briefing to see for himself the dedication of Cheshire officers.
He said: “One of the main things the public tell me is that they are concerned about drug activity in their neighbourhoods. I hope this morning’s action provides reassurance that Cheshire police treat these concerns as a priority and are determined to make our communities safer.”
Anyone with any information about drugs activity in their neighbourhoods, or any crime, should contact Cheshire police on 101. Information can also be passed on anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555111.
