Dreaming in Code, an explosive double-bill from 2Faced Dance, one of the UK’s leading all-male dance companies, comes to Buxton Opera House on Thursday 8 October.
The first piece in the double-bill Milk Night by Frantic Assembly’s Eddie Kay explores what it might be like to live in a world without women. How would men survive in such a world? What would be their greatest fear? What would they need to do in order to not forget?
Talking about the piece, Eddie said: “When I was approached to work with an all-male company, I became instantly fascinated by the absence of women. We can only imagine what would happen in this situation but, whilst exploring the idea with the performers, it became apparent we were all afraid of the same thing: forgetting. What would men have to do in order to hold onto the ever-fading memories of being with real women?”
The second piece on the bill, Lucid Grounds, comes from the award-winning choreographer Tamsin Fitzgerald. The futuristic piece features a climactic soundtrack by two of the country’s most exciting composers, Angus MacRae and Tony-nominated Alex Baranowski. Talking about Lucid Grounds, Tamsin has said: “Over the years I have become fascinated by the power of the brain and its ability to both control and disable the body. This led me to look at my own recollection of childhood events and memories. Is what we remember the truth or a series of small truths pieced together to create a new event or story? What would happen if we were able to directly experience each other’s memories or dreams?”
Dreaming in Code takes place at Buxton Opera House on Thursday 8 October at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced from £13 to £16 and discounts are available. To buy tickets call 01298 72190 or visit wwwbuxtonoperahouse.org.uk
