Following the very positive job news in Macclesfield over recent months, local Member of Parliament, David Rutley, visited Macclesfield Jobcentre, to discuss the work being done to reduce unemployment in the area.
David met with the Macclesfield Jobcentre manager, David Dunkerley, to discuss the trends in job statistics locally, such as the number of people signed on, and the average time it is taking for new claimants to find a job, in addition to finding out how the Universal Credit rollout in Macclesfield has affected both customers and Jobcentre staff. David also had the opportunity to meet with staff and find out more about the important work which they do.
It has been very encouraging over the past couple of years to see unemployment falling in Macclesfield – particularly youth unemployment. Between August 2011 and August 2015, the number of unemployed 18 to 24 year olds has more than halved in the constituency, and is at a lower rate than that for both the North West and the country, as a whole. This is a real achievement, and reflects the hard work of local businesses and a strengthening economy.
Speaking following the visit, David said, “It is great to have the opportunity to meet David and his excellent team at the Jobcentre. The work which they do, to help local residents find jobs quickly, and support their skills development has been a major contribution to the encouraging unemployment figures locally. I look forward to keeping in touch with this important service in the months ahead.”
