Town centre improvements for pedestrians

Macclesfield town centre is to be improved to provide an enhanced walking environment for shoppers accessing the town centre.

Cheshire East Highways are renewing and relaying block paving and replacing damaged kerbs with conservation kerbs on Mill Street between Duke Street and Roe Street.

The improvements are planned to commence on Monday 12 October and will last for a period of five weeks.

Local businesses remain open as usual whilst the works take place and pedestrian access to Macclesfield town centre will be maintained.

Councillor David Brown, Cabinet member in charge of highways at Cheshire East Council said, “The footway improvement works will provide an enhanced walking route for visitors of Macclesfield town centre to enjoy.”

”There will be a prohibition of one-way traffic on Mill Street to enable this from its junction with Duke Street to Roe Street for the duration of the works.

Cheshire East Highways are working closely with shop owners and local businesses to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum.

Personnel will be available on-site to provide help and advice to members of the public throughout the duration of the improvement works.

Emergency access to the area will be maintained at all times.

If there are any concerns regarding these works, please contact Cheshire East Highways online at www.cheshireeast.gov.uk/highways or by phoning 0300 123 5020

Ed: Maintenance work has to be done, but let’s hope this doesn’t deter the few shoppers who continue to use Macclesfield for their shopping – or that it doesn’t over-run into the Christmas period.
