Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Congleton.
At 2.40pm on Wednesday 21st October police received reports of a car having collided with the Town Hall in High Street.
Emergency services attended the scene to find the vehicle side on in the entrance of the building.
The driver and passenger – an 89-year-old man and an 84-year-old woman – had to be freed from the vehicle by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service.
There was no structural damage to the building but the road was closed whilst the vehicle was moved from the scene.
The woman was taken to Macclesfield Hospital with serious injuries to her upper body. The man sustained minor injuries and was also taken to hospital to be checked over.
The woman has since sadly died from her injuries.
Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened or may have seen the car – a blue Honda Civic – before the incident to come forward.
