It’s a job some people dream about and now Macclesfield Town are making it a reality, after advertising a vacancy for a ‘lion tamer’ at the club.
The club are hoping to give someone the opportunity to work with mascot and resident club lion, Roary, on match days.
The Silkmen give a full description of the role, which included feeding and exercising Roary, ensuring the lion is in peak condition – and evaluating his temperament.
A statement on the club website read: ‘Macclesfield Town are pleased to announce a new opening within in the backroom team at the Football Club.
‘The Silkmen are currently seeking an enthusiastic ‘Lion Tamer’ to assist with resident club lion Roary on match-days.
‘As the official ‘Lion Tamer’ of Macclesfield Town FC, you will provide a key role in making sure Roary fulfils his roles on a match day including entertaining the crowd at the Moss Rose and posing for photographs with supporters.
‘No prior experience of dealing with lions is required as full training will be provided. But the successful applicant must be confident and energetic.’
Back in June, the club made an audacious effort to sign Manchester City star Raheem Sterling and created a crowdfunding page to try to raise the £50million transfer fee needed to prize him away from former employers Liverpool.
Just days previously, the club made a bid to host the 2026 World Cup – where they could offer six pitches and would have ‘club legends’ David Dickenson and John Askey conduct the opening and closing ceremony.
