The Park Tavern has teamed up with the company behind ‘Worms’ to celebrate that birthday with a tournament to find the greatest Worms players in Macclesfield!
The computer game is one of the all-time classics – an incongruous blend of cartoon cuteness and violent mayhem in which players control teams of cute worms to annihilate one another with bizarre weaponry ranging from holy hand grenades to exploding sheep.
The contest, using Worms: Armageddon, will play out on the HD screen in the boutique cinema at the Park Tavern on Park Lane. It costs just £3 to enter but interested parties should hurry and register at the Park Tavern as soon as possible as there are only 16 places available.
The contest is completely free to watch, so competitors can bring their friends for moral support or tactical advice. In addition, Park Tavern landlady and talented cook Rebecca Prunty will be putting on a spread of special ‘worm-food’ for the event!
No competitor will walk away empty-handed, whether they go out in the first round or last until the final battle!
First heats will take place between 2–6pm on Saturday 28 November when contestants will face off in four-way melees. Eight successful competitors will go through to the second stage between 2–6pm on Saturday 5 December, where a series of shorter head-to-head battles will whittle down the field until a grand final sees the final two battling to win the best of three rounds and take home our magnificent custom-made trophy!
“Playing Worms: Armageddon is a real blast from the past.” said organiser Jude D’Souza “I’ve met so many people who immediately get nostalgic at the mere mention of the game. Most didn’t realise that Team 17 have continued to maintain it over the years, so it still looks great and runs smoothly on modern PCs.”
