Your help is needed at Castleton Visitor Centre

Residents of Castleton and visitors to the picturesque Peak District village are being asked to give their views on how the national park visitor centre there is refurbished.

A survey will be carried out during Castleton’s Christmas Lights Switch-on weekend, from Friday 13 to Sunday November 15.

Castleton visitor centre is owned and run by the Peak District National Park Authority working in partnership with Castleton Historical Society and with funding support from High Peak Borough Council.. It currently has a retail area, an exhibition space and houses Castleton Historical Society museum exhibits. No extension to the building is planned.

Visitor services manager Sue Beswick said: “We’re looking at how we can make the most of the space at the visitor centre and we’re keen to find out what local residents and visitors would like to see there. The feedback we get will help us formulate our proposals.

“Castleton visitor centre is an important outlet for us in reaching out to help people enjoy and understand the national park’s special qualities but we have to make efficiency savings and boost our income.”

Following the survey, two drop-in sessions for the local community will be held on the evenings of Tuesday 1 and Wednesday December 2, from 6pm to 7.30pm. Residents will be able to see how the plans are shaping up after the survey and discuss their ideas with national park staff and members.
