The third Macclesfield Open Art Exhibition is now running at the Silk Museum.
With almost 300 works, submitted from as far afield as Manchester, Liverpool, Sheffield and Stoke, this year’s exhibition is bigger and better than ever.
The standard of the work is extremely high, with excellent examples of printmaking, sculpture, jewellery and, of course, painting.
This year’s prizewinners are Hifumi Ogasahara, Peter Davis and Michelle Stringer.
‘Night on Earth: Seoul’ by Hifumi Ogasahara
Hifumi, a Manchester-based artist, receives the £200 Macclesfield Open Award, donated by the museum and chosen by the judges, for her wonderfully atmospheric painting ‘Night on Earth: Seoul’.
‘My Mother Joyce’ by Peter Davis
Peter, from Wilmslow, receives the £200 Silk Museum Award, donated and chosen by the museum, for his excellent portrait ‘My Mother Joyce’.
‘Bembridge, Isle of Wight’ by Michelle Stringer
Michelle, a well-known local, Macclesfield artist, wins the £100 Mail Boxes Etc. Award, chosen and donated by the company, for her impressive (and impressionistic) study of ‘Bembridge, Isle of Wight’.
A fourth prizewinner – of the £100 Visitors’ Choice Award – will be chosen by visitors to the exhibition, who are encouraged to vote for their favourite work. The artist whose work receives most votes will be announced in January.
The Macclesfield Open Art Exhibition 2015-2016 at the Silk Museum, Park Lane, Macclesfield runs until Saturday 9 January 2016.
The museum is open from 10 till 3 every day except Sunday and entry to the exhibition is free.
