Book online for Peak District ranger events

It’s never been easier to work off the festive excess by exploring the Peak District National Park with the people who know it best.

Booking is now available online for events with National Park rangers, aimed at helping more people to enjoy the special landscape and improve their fitness.

The 2016 schedule starts on 17 January with Business As Usual, a 5-mile guided walk in picturesque Monsal Dale. This is followed on 24 January by two contrasting events. The first is an intermediate navigation walk at Dove Stone, giving people who have already completed the beginner course the chance to hone their skills using a compass and route card. Or enjoy spectacular views on Northern Exposure, an 8-mile winter walk along Kinder Scout’s northern edges.

The programme also provides the opportunity for groups to book personalised events, including aircraft wreck walks, bat experience evenings, mountain bike skills and orienteering.

Ranger Andy Farmer said: “It’s a big step forward for us to be able to offer online bookings and we hope it will persuade more people to join us. Our rangers have a wealth of knowledge about their patch and are always keen to share their stories and encourage people to enjoy the countryside.

“We have organised a varied programme to start the new year and the walks should appeal to people who are new to the area, want to visit somewhere different, need fresh air and exercise, or want to learn more about a place they love.’’

To make a booking, or find out more about the events coming up, go to www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/events. Bookings can also be made by phone on 01629 816 200 (Mon-Fri) and 01629 816 572 or 01629 813 227 (Sat-Sun). The money raised from tickets is used to help maintain paths and trails in the Peak District National Park. Email customer.service@peakdistrict.gov.uk to discuss the options for bespoke events.
