Whitehead heading for Wigan

Wigan Athletic are hoping to give another chance to midfielder Danny Whitehead.

According to the Daily Mail, the Latics are set to sign the 22-year-old from Macclesfield Town.

Whitehead has been in the lower leagues since departing West Ham United  for Accrington Stanley in March 2015, prior to his shift to Macclesfield in August.

Following his failed stint with the Hammers, which came after beginning his career at Stockport County, Whitehead has resurrected his career with the Silkmen for whom he has played 24 times in the National League this term.

It is believed that Whitehead will sign with League One club Wigan before returning to Macc on loan for the remainder of the season.
