Local MP, David Rutley, recently met the Minister responsible for the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), Justin Tomlinson MP, to discuss the on-going joint investigation by Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and HSE into the tragic explosion in Bosley at Wood Treatment Ltd in July last year.
At the meeting, the Minister highlighted the fact that HSE’s investigations are always full and thorough and will seek to answer questions raised by those affected by the incident and local residents about the causes of the explosion.
Investigations at the site finished before Christmas and the road leading to it has since been reopened to the public. HSE investigators are now undertaking further interviews with witnesses and carefully reviewing the extensive evidence it has gathered from the incident site.
In the weeks ahead, David will visit the HSE’s Laboratory in Buxton to get a further update on the progress of the investigation and to find out first-hand more about the methods HSE uses when undertaking its investigations.
When the investigation has been completed, a report will be given to the Crown Prosecution Service, who will then determine if any criminal charges are to be made.
HSE has made additional visits to other businesses in carrying out similar processes following the explosion to ensure that these businesses were operating at the right standards.
After the meeting, the Minister with responsibility for the HSE, Justin Tomlinson, said, “It was good to meet with David to talk about the professional response of the emergency services to the Bosley explosion and also the strong support that has been given by the community to those affected by the incident. They can be assured that the joint investigation agencies will continue to take forward a full and thorough review of the explosion.”
David said, “The Health & Safety Executive is doing vital work to determine the causes of the tragic explosion in Bosley. I will continue to keep close to the investigation in the weeks and months ahead. I am most grateful to the Minister and the HSE for all that they are doing.”
