Turin Breaks a group who have played alongside the likes of Ed Sheeran, Travis, Jake Bugg, Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes and Radiohead will be in Buxton on Monday 22 February.
Turin Brakes was created by Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian, in the year 2000. In a millennial South London bedroom, more out of a shared need to express a hidden message they’d both caught at the century’s end, than in a grab for stardom.
While many of the rest of the class of 2000 seem forever frozen in their yearbook pictures, Turin Brakes are still making their way through the century’s changing landscape, and following the release of their seventh studio album Lost Property, their UK tour will be coming to the Pavilion Arts Centre in February.
Enlisting the membership of long-term collaborators Rob Allum and Eddie Myer, the band carries on because the message is still there, still hidden, still with something to say. Sixteen years of touring across continents have sealed their reputation as a fearsome live act, able to hold any size crowd with the sheer chutzpah of their no-hidden-tricks raw and direct onstage presence.
Supporting Turin Brakes will be Tom Speight, whose debut album Willow Tree has received widespread acclaim for its insightful lyrics and intricate arrangement. This, in addition to support from Sir Paul McCartney and their support slots for some of the biggest musicians of the moment suggests that Tom Speight is still one to watch.
Turin Breaks play the Pavilion Arts Centre on Monday 22 February at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £22 and discounts are available. To buy tickets or for more information call the Box Office on 01298 72190 or visit www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
