The Rotary club of Macclesfield Castle’s programme for schools reached its climax this week when the Primary Youth speaks challenge took place at Ashgrove School. Seven junior schools battled it out for the Youth Speaks trophy with Marlborough Primary from Tytherington taking the gold.
The hard fought competition with schools from Peover, Bollington St Johns, Pott Shrigley, Ash Grove, Hurdsfield and Hollinhey and subjects such as ‘Is the internet a friend or enemy to children?, The Massai Tribe, Big Cats and Hidden Talents gave the judges a stiff job to come up with a winner of Marlborough school speaking on ’the secret benefits of playing video games’.
David Hope, tutor at Marlborough school said “I am incredibly proud of the performance. The children wrote all their own material, worked hard on their performance during each practice session and saved their finest performance for the event itself. I was so excited to see how confident and polished the children’s speech was, especially on stage under the bright lights and in front on a large crowd. My team were thrilled and cannot wait for the next round which is for the Rotary North West Shield.
Macclesfield Castle club members ontinue to support local schools with competitions and mock interviewing skills with their next challenge is the Rotary swimathon on March 13th to help small groups raise funds for their charity. Places still available. call Alec 01625 420209
