A bigger splash for SCUBA club

Sport England have awarded nearly £10,000 to East Cheshire Sub-Aqua Club (ECSAC) for new equipment, to extend its community outreach.

Following a decision to pursue grant funding for club projects, ECSAC was successful with its application and was awarded £9,997 from Sport England under their Small Grants scheme. The grant will deliver a new set of SCUBA equipment for pool and open water use and two AEDs (automated external defibrillators) one is a fully functional unit which can be used in real rescue situations and one is for training. David wrote a letter strongly supporting ECSAC’s grant application.

East Cheshire Sub Aqua Club is a Macclesfield based scuba diving club. The Club was formed in 1960 making it one of the oldest sports diving clubs in the UK and forms part of the internationally recognised British Sub Aqua Club.  They meet regularly on a Thursday in their purpose built clubhouse in central Macclesfield and deliver Scuba training at Macclesfield Leisure Centre.

With 100 active members they regularly dive around the UK and also arrange trips further afield from the Azores, Malta, Lanzarote and even Oman.  The Club also has two of its own boats and is able to offer training to use the boats, as well as more advanced technical diving training if needed.

Kevin Phillips, the Diving Officer, said: “We are delighted to have this grant as it will allow us to expand our community work and also support the club in growing its activities over the coming months, we are hoping for a great year of diving with the Club”.

The club continues to grow and they are actively seeking new members, so if you are interested in learning to dive or if you are already qualified and would like to join them on their trips then get in touch with them via info@ecsac.org.uk
