Cheshire’s senior police officers and staff are going ‘Back to the floor’ again to experience first-hand some of the pressures that frontline officers and staff face on a daily basis.
Every department will be covered throughout the 24-hour period, on Friday 13 May, from the local policing unit to firearms.
Chief Constable Simon Byrne said: “You can’t lead a successful organisation just by sitting behind a desk. You need to go out and speak face to face with the officers and staff who keep the organisation running.
“Last year we ran a similar day which was hugely successful. I was keen that it was not seen as a gimmick or flash in the pan which is why we are running with it again this year.”
The Chief Constable Simon Byrne will be working in call handling, which everyday receives over 2,500 calls, before heading out with the firearms team. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Constable Janette McCormick will be joining response officers in Warrington, and Assistant Chief Constable Sarah Boycott will be out on patrol with neighbourhood patrol officers in Macclesfield.
Assistant Chief Constable Sarah Boycott said: “The beat management team plays a pivotal role in the Constabulary and I am looking forward to going out with the team in Macclesfield to see some of the work that they undertake on a daily basis.
“Local beat policing is valued by our communities and I’m particularly keen to go out on patrol and see officers engaging with local people.”
In total more than 20 senior officers and staff will be going ‘back to the floor’ in a variety of roles across the Force. It will also provide officers and staff with the opportunity to speak directly to leaders and managers about any concerns or suggestions that they may have.
Simon added: “Crime in Cheshire is currently at its lowest level for over 25 years and that’s the way we want to keep it.
“To do this we have to have a true understanding of the way the organisation works and the work that officers and staff undertake.”
