Alderley Park Discovered – written by local author Dr George B. Hill – charts the history of Alderley Park from its early beginnings in the Domesday Book right through to the present day.
As a former chemist at ICI, Zeneca and later AstraZeneca, George reveals the inside stories of the ground-breaking heart and cancer drugs discovered on the site, as well as telling of the Park’s rich and diverse history, it’s wildlife and farmland.
Speaking at the book’s launch at Alderley Park, Dr Hill said: “My aims in writing the book were both to recall what Alderley Park discovered and to reveal what can be discovered about Alderley Park, and to make the story readable and human by also including many anecdotes and images of life in the Park.”
The book was supported by AstraZeneca and Manchester Science Partnerships, and Graeme Bristow, AstraZeneca’s Site Lead at Alderley Park, said “There is something quite magical about the place, and I am delighted that George, who is uniquely placed, has captured the story so far.”
Site Director for Alderley Park, Dr Chris Doherty added: “My own history with Alderley Park started in 2009 when I came to work here. It is not only a great place for discovery science but a great community to be part of. In my role as Site Director, I now have the responsibility of continuing the fantastic legacy of Alderley Park and helping to create the future”.
This fascinating, lavishly illustrated and beautifully produced book will be of huge appeal to anyone with connections to Alderley Park, including current and former employees, local people and historians.
The book is now on sale, published by Carnegie Publishing priced £30.00, and is available from AstraZeneca, from the publishers on 01524 840111 or by visiting www.carnegiepublishing.com, and from all good booksellers.
