The work being done by a local charity which supports people who face addiction issues and homelessness has been praised by local MP, David Rutley, in helping to improve people’s lives.
Reach Out And Recover (ROAR), based in Churchside in Macclesfield, are a non-for-profit, support in the community organisation, which offers people a safe, secure and stable environment in which they can start to tackle their addictions and personal issues.
David has been a supporter of the group’s work since its creation two years ago. He recently met with volunteers and service users to find out about recent progress, and how local people can actively support the important work being done by the organisation.
Based in Macclesfield, ROAR is a nine bed recovery housing project offering a safe, secure, stable 24 hour supported environment for people to reside. Those who access the service are given help to take control of their lives and to develop practical skills whilst working in the community.
Service users are allocated tasks and responsibilities based on their strengths and skills. Volunteers work in partnership with other community based organisations in order to give the people the best opportunity to address their issues, and in turn, prevent re-offending. The programme offers people a pathway to a new life; from early stage 24 hour support, towards supported accommodation and finally, their own independent tenancies.
Although ROAR works hard to support everyone who comes through its doors, the organisation is currently looking for more volunteers who can assist with its important work, with specific focus on marketing, accounts and fundraising skills.
Speaking following the meeting, David said, “It was good to see the encouraging progress which continues to be made by ROAR, and the results which play an important role in transforming people’s lives. I would urge anyone who is keen to contribute to contact ROAR and find out how to help take forward this important work.”
