In a historic week in British politics, children from Puss Bank School had the opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament to learn more about how democracy works, as well as meet their Member of Parliament, David Rutley, for a question and answer session.
Children from Years 4, 5 and 6 were given a guided tour of the world famous Palace of Westminster, during an action packed day to London. Their trip was organised by the Parliamentary Education Service, and the party took part in an interactive workshop run by the Service, in the new Parliamentary Education Centre.
The Centre is a world-class education facility that inspires and connects young people with Parliament and democracy. It is a dynamic, stimulating environment, which is distinct from the school setting. The Centre also makes use of creative and immersive technology to create a unique learning experience from which groups depart feeling inspired about their time in Parliament.
Given the significant recent events, there was plenty for David to be asked about, as he fielded questions on a number of issues, including: the EU Referendum, the Conservative leadership race and his work in Parliament.
Speaking following the session, David said, “It is great to see young people having the opportunity to visit Parliament and understand more about how our democracy works and be engaged with British politics. I really enjoyed meeting the children from Puss Bank School and hope that they had a memorable day, in what has been a very memorable week.”
