MP for Macclesfield, David Rutley, joined local residents in remembering the first anniversary of the tragic explosion in Bosley, in which four people sadly lost their lives.
A number of events were held to mark the anniversary, including a flower festival in Bosley Methodist Chapel and an activity day for families in the village, which David opened on Saturday.
A church service was held on Sunday morning with an accordion band in the marquee at Bosley St Mary’s School playing field. This was followed by another well attended service in the evening at Bosley Methodist Chapel.
At the events, David praised the work of the emergency services, who provided such an effective and professional response to the devastating explosion. He also thanked Cheshire East Council for the support it provided to so many families affected by the incident.
Most of all, he recognised the incredible work of the local community, which pulled together to raise nearly £240,000 through the Bosley Disaster Appeal fund to provide much needed financial assistance.
The investigation into the explosion, which is being run jointly by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service remains ongoing. David has, however, been in regular contact with HSE, and has been reassured that positive progress is being made, with what continues to be a full and thorough investigation.
After the weekend’s events, David said, “It was an honour to be able to attend the events to remember those lost in the tragic explosion a year ago. That devastating incident will stay in our minds for ever. However, the services and events have shown, once again, the strength of the community spirit in Bosley and will help all those affected by the explosion to look forward. I would like to thank all those involved in the events over the weekend, for contributing towards a fitting tribute one year on.”
