Your Health Matters – Cardiology

A reminder that the next Health Matters talk will be held on Tuesday – 6th September 2016, 7-8pm.
This month’s talk is about Cardiology
People can learn about symptoms, heart conditions and treatment of heart disease affecting more than 2.3million people in the UK at a free public lecture this month.
The ‘Health Matters’ talk, which takes place at Macclesfield Hospital on Tuesday, September 6th, will be delivered by consultant cardiologist Dr Stuart Russell, who works at the hospital.
Dr Russell will describe the symptoms and treatment of heart failure which is a common medical presentation to the acute admissions unit.   Dr Russell will also present local data published on the treatment of heart failure from the recently published National Heart Failure Audit 2014-15.
Dr Russell said: “Heart failure is a common condition presenting to our hospital.  In the UK around 900,000 people have been diagnosed with heart failure.  This is a serious condition with an in-hospital mortality of 10% and a 1 year mortality of 30-40%.  It is therefore vital that patients with this condition are managed by a specialist and a heart failure team alongside our colleagues in primary care.”
“It is likely that as a member of the public you will know someone or have experienced heart disease yourself and knowing how to recognise and manage this disease is vital.”
The talk takes place at 7pm in Macclesfield Hospital’s Lecture Theatre, which is near the Treetops Restaurant on the first floor.
All are welcome to attend the event but places are limited, so please book in advance and secure free parking if required by contacting the Communications and Engagement Department on freephone 0800 195 4194 or email: ecntstaff.comms@nhs.net
Dr Russell has been a consultant cardiologist with a specialist interest in heart failure at Macclesfield District General Hospital for 2 years.  He leads the heart failure service at MDGH along with a specialist team of cardiology nurses and cardiac physiologists.
Dr Russell is employed by East Cheshire NHS Trust and University Hospital South Manchester where he implants pacemakers and cardiac defibrillator
