Cheshire East Council’s highways team will be resurfacing and replacing road markings on the A34 at Marton – between the junctions of Davenport Lane and Blackden Lane – for eight evenings between Monday September 26 until October 5
The road will be open as usual on October 1 and October 2.
To facilitate the road works, gully cleansing and grass cutting to take place safely, Congleton Road will be closed between the A536 Manchester Road at Congleton ambulance station and the A537 Monks Heath crossroads.
The works are planned between 7.30pm and 5am hopefully meaning that peak travel hours remain unaffected and disruption is minimised.
A diversion will be in place to assist the movement of traffic while works are under way and will be signposted via the A536 Macclesfield Road, B5088 Oxford Road, A537 Chester Road/Chelford Road and Monks Heath crossroads.
These diversions will also operate in reverse. This route will be mapped out using advanced-warning signage with variable message signs.
Councillor David Brown, Cheshire East Council Cabinet member for highways and infrastructure, said:
“This is clearly one of our key routes, so we were very keen to ensure that we got the best value for taxpayers by co-ordinating a series of works, while only having the road closed on one occasion.
“Organising these significant works at night was also an important part of our planning.”
Emergency access will be maintained at all times and local residents and businesses have been informed.
Traffic marshals will be on hand to provide help and advise members of the public throughout the duration of the scheme.
