Barnaby is championing an exciting project to bring an acclaimed artwork to Macclesfield next month and is asking for your support.
Something Curious Coming to Town
ADP is an artwork (now housed in a 40ft shipping container) by artist Jimmy Cauty (former member of band The KLF) which first appeared at Banksy’s Dismaland experience in Weston-super-Mare last year and was at the Royal Academy this summer. The work is a miniature world of irreverent, post-apocalyptic scenes. There are peep-holes in the metal casing to peer into the illuminated interior.
The graffitied shipping container will be in Exchange Street car park outside B&M from Tue 15 to Sun 21 November, 11am-7pm as part of the national ADP Riot Tour – if enough money can be raised. The twist is that it only visits places where a riot has taken place. So this is not only the chance to host an acclaimed artwork, but to also tell the story behind Macclesfield’s 1812 riot when ‘desperate characters’ were ‘ hurling potatoes and rolling cheese’. More..
Crowdfunding to Make it Happen
Organisers need to raise £2052 from the people of Macc by 12 November – will you help? Barnaby has joined forces with ArtSpace, Macc lovers and culture vultures to champion this project. Watch the film or go to the crowdfunding page for more information and details of the exciting rewards for pledges from £10 to £200. Let’s bring this big, bold and provocative artwork to a neglected corner of the town centre!
Comedy at Christ Church
We couldn’t let you go without mentioning Shakespeare’s Stand-up on Friday 4 November. This is a must-see ruff-tickling show from award-winning comedian Tim Fitzhigham as the eccentric Will Kemp. And it’s in one of Barnaby’s favourite venues, historic Christ Church. Tickets are £12/£10 concessions, in support of The Churches Conservation Trust.
