The annual Young Chef competition, organised by the Rotary club of Macclesfield Castle, held at The Macclesfield Academy on Friday 11th November was a resounding success.
.
Ten young people took part with a brief to prepare a single course encompassing “Dishes from around the world”
.
The year seven winner was Shanagh Dennely with a superb lasagne; second place went to Marcus Tell – with a Frikadeller from Holland; and in third William Potts – with Flapjacks, designed in a poppy shape and red barbed wire, to recognise Remembrance day.
.
Other dishes involved recipes from South America, Italy, Greece and the UK.
.
The Macclesfield Academy school chef Mrs Angela Scott congratulated the students on their dishes and said that recipes would be put on the menu for the school lunch – and the student responsible might even get a free lunch.
.
The Home economics teacher Mrs Wren said they had all set the bar for next year and, as many of the students had not used this kitchen before, to make such substantive plates of food was an outstanding achievement.
.
The year eight competition was won by Anya Brandon with a South American dish.
.
Rotary club President, Ray Kramer, congratulated the children for providing such an array of tastes from around the world.
.
The next Rotary events are the annual Charities Bazaar on Saturday 19th November and Annual Swimathon on Sunday 12th March 2017.
