Talented Daoirí Farrell, tipped as one of the most important singers to come out of Ireland in recent years, will be at Buxton Opera House in March in a joint concert with the acclaimed Damien O’Kane Trio.
A former electrician, who decided to change profession after seeing Christy Moore perform on Irish TV, the Dublin-born Daoirí (pronounced ‘Derry’) Farrell is a traditional singer and bouzouki player. Since coming to prominence he has worked with some of the biggest names in Irish and international folk music, including his musical inspiration Christy Moore, Martin Hayes, Dennis Cahill, Alan Doherty and more.
Damien O’Kane is a Northern Irish musician of many talents. A singer, banjo player, guitarist, arranger and tunemaker; Damien has teamed up with master guitarists Steven Byrnes (treacherous Orchestra, Kate Rusby) and Steven Iveson.
With sublime and exhilarating electric guitar playing, the trio take traditional Irish music and song and, in the words of the Telegraph, turn it into ‘folk-pop that is Irish music for the 21st Century’.
Daoiri Farrell/ The Damien O’Kane Trio will take place on Wednesday 22 March at 7.30pm Tickets are priced at £15. To buy tickets please call the Box Office on 01298 72190 or visit www.buxtonoperahouse.org.uk
