Local MP, David Rutley, recently met with apprentices from AstraZeneca to look at their work under the Brathay Apprentice Challenge, a national scheme to help promote apprenticeships. The Brathay Apprentice Challenge has been running for six years, with seventy five organisations entering this year with the aim of becoming the National Apprentice Team of 2017. Over the next four months, each team will take on a series of interactive work-related challenges to develop new skills, showcase their employer and promote the benefits of apprenticeships by engaging with young people and businesses.
An informal session followed the meeting where mentors, leaders of the apprenticeship programmes, apprentices from other parts of AstraZeneca and senior leaders shared their thoughts and experiences on how apprentices have helped the organisation to develop.
Ryan Coram, the Team Leader at AstraZeneca said: “Having the session with David was excellent and provided us with some great initiatives to go forward with. We look forward to working with him in the future to support the young talent in our local community.”
After the meeting, David said: “It was good to have the opportunity to meet with the apprentices and hear more about their work, including their active participation in the Brathay Apprentice Challenge. I know that apprentices make an outstanding contribution to their respective organisations and it is good to see this group going to such lengths to promote the benefits of apprenticeships in the wider community. I wish them continued success and fully support their work as part of this important Challenge.”
