Bosley Tug of War Club will be hosting their annual tug of war competition at Glebe Farm Shop, Astbury, this Sunday – 2nd April.
Tug of War teams from around England will be taking part in the event, which is the season opener in the Tug of War Association calendar. There will be weight classes for mens teams, ladies teams, junior teams and mixed teams.
Club spokesman Alan Knott told us: “We are very much looking forward to hosting this event.”
“We got a good attendance at the events we hosted last year, and hopefully we will see a good number of teams competing at our event this time around. This year, we even have teams from the Republic of Ireland and Wales travelling to compete at this event. A number of teams that will be competing at the event have won national and international medals over recent years, so hopefully, with some good weather, it should be a great event.”
In addition to the tug of war, Glebe Farm has a farm shop, tea rooms, shops, and studios, children’s play area, petting farm, tractor rides, and children’s arts and crafts, so with the tug of war competition as well, this event should make for a good family day out and we encourage local people to come along in force to support the teams taking part.
The weigh in starts at 10.00 am with competitions commencing at 11.00 am. Spectators are encouraged to come along and support the teams on the day and find out a bit more about what the sport is all about. Entry for spectators is free.
A lot of the teams that spectators will see competing this weekend will go on to compete at the National Tug of War Championships on Saturday 17 June, which this year are taking place in Devon, before the European Championships take place in Southport, Merseyside in September.
