Macclesfield Town Council will be launching their new cycle route leaflets with a Cycle Saturday event on Saturday 1st July.
The event, running between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm kicks of in Macclesfield Market Place with a ‘Grand Depart’ of two guided cycle rides.
On offer will be a 4.5mile junior route for those aged over 12 as well as a 14-mile adult route – guided by volunteers from local cycling group, Macclesfield Wheelers.
Registration for the rides are free – but essential as places are limited.
You can book a place on a ride by e-mailing community@macclesfield-tc.gov.uk or calling 01625 374142. Registration closes on Friday 16th June.
Everyone will have the opportunity to pick up the new cycle route leaflets, talk to a Bike Doctor about any bike issues, take part in a static cycling challenge, learn about first aid for cyclists from St John Ambulance, receive cycling safely advice from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and take part in some cycling themed interactive activities.
All activities at the event are free to take part in.
Earlier this year, Macclesfield Council launched their new initiative ‘MaccTivity’ designed to inspire local people to increase their physical activity each day. Macclesfield is the perfect start and finish location for a day’s cycling and the new printed cycle routes will encourage people to make the most of the wonderful reception that the Town has to offer, at the start and end of any ride.
Paul Anders Johnson from Ride and Repair on Gunco Lane in Macclesfield, and Darren Allgood from Allgood Cycling are supporting the event by providing advice, support and bike maintenance on the day. Darren Allgood who manages cycle events all across Europe commented that ‘We are very happy to be part of an event encouraging cycling in Macclesfield. It is great to see such local enthusiasm for the sport’
