Mydel Ladies Choir celebrated their 70th anniversary on 17th June with an Anniversary Concert, at Macclesfield Methodist Church attended by the Mayor of Macclesfield, Cllr Beverly Dooley and local MP David Rutley.
The concert celebrated the Choir’s many achievements, and raised money for Space4Autism, a Macclesfield based charity which holds monthly parent support meetings, workshops and events.
The Mydel Ladies Choir continues to thrive and attracts members of all ages, including 91 year old Mabel Harvey, an original member and current President of the Choir, who continues to be a much valued member of the alto section. Mabel joined her fellow Choir members for the celebratory performance, where her long service was warmly recognised.
The Choir was formed in 1947. Originally known as the Dormel Singers, the Choir quickly established itself as Macclesfield’s foremost ladies choir and, following many notable successes, became the Mydel Choir in 1970 after the retirement of its founder Dorothy Mellor.
