Emergency services which attended the Bosley Mill explosion have paid tribute to those who died with a memorial stone.
On 17 July 2015 the lives of four people were lost following an explosion at Wood Treatment Ltd. Derek Moore, 62, Dorothy Bailey, 62, William Barks, 51, and Jason Shingler, 38 were killed in the incident. Mr Shingler’s body has never been recovered.
William Barks, Derek Moore, Jason Shingler and Dorothy Bailey, all died in the huge explosion.
On 17 July 2017 the local vicar held a short service and a minutes silence for the families, friends and former colleagues in the memorial garden at Bosley Chapel where the stone had been laid.
Representatives from Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service joined them after the gathering had privately paid respects to their loved ones.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service station manager Duncan Palin said: “There are some incidents that remain with you throughout your career and the explosion in Bosley is one that will never leave me.
“The laying of the slate commemoration stone, which was supplied by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and very kindly engraved by JB Stone, will serve as a lasting memorial to the people who sadly lost their lives and the families they left behind. They will be remembered always by all three of the emergency services.”
Insp Catherine Mitchell from Macclesfield Local Policing Unit said: “This tragic event had such an impact on all those involved, we felt we needed to do something to remember those who died and this memorial stone felt a fitting tribute. It was good to take the time to reflect on such a poignant day.”
North West Ambulance Service Operational Manager, Stephen Hallmark comments: “Thankfully these types on incidents happen very rarely and it is always humbling to meet survivors and the families of victims. These occasions are a reminder of why we do what we do and I was extremely honoured to represent the ambulance service at this event.”
