Five local charities have been awarded grants totalling £1,840, thanks to the active fundraising of the Macclesfield and District Sheep Dog Trials Association.
Cheques to the Rossendale Trust, Macmillan Nurses, East Cheshire Hospice, Midlands Air Ambulance, and Ronald McDonald House in Manchester at a presentation ceremony at Sutton Hall Farm.
The presentation precedes this year’s Sheep Dog Trials, a Macclesfield tradition dating back as far as 1945. Taking place across Friday 4th, Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th August, the forthcoming Trials will see entrants from across the country competing, with the winners going onto the National Championship in Suffolk in September. There will also be plenty of other activities to enjoy over the weekend, including the Tug-o-War, BBQ and Beer on Friday, Saturday’s Craft Fayre and Fell Race, and the Sunday Concert – a firm favorite with hundreds of attendees.
Speaking after the presentation ceremony, local MP David Rutley, who is Patron of the Association, said, “It is an honor to help present these wonderful charities with their donations. Not only is the Macclesfield Sheep Dog Trials a well-established part of the summer calendar, bringing people together, the funds raised help to support so many local worthy causes. Of course, fundraising for next year’s charity presentation will begin at Macclesfield Sheep Dog Trials next month. There are always so many things to see and do, and I would encourage as many local residents as possible to attend and support this great Macclesfield tradition.”
